They tell me that many years ago Rudyard Kipling gave an address at McGill University in Montreal. He said one striking thing which deserves to be remembered. Warning the students against an over-concern for money, or position, or glory, he said: “Some day you will meet a man who cares for none of these things. Then you will know how poor you are."

Ha! Call me a cynic but I suspect the only folk who profess to care for neither money, position or glory, are probably either rich and powerful already - or dead.

Why can we not have money AND be spiritual?
I want both, but have neither....-

Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught, will we realise that we cannot eat money.

I've got nothing really and I'm happy. I don't own my own home and I rarely buy myself anything other than food. I spend my money giving my sons everything they want. Material possessions can't be taken with you,we all go in a box one day. I'm banging on about nothing again, quick Mortimer pass the tranquilizer gun.I see lions.

Rudyard kipling is my standard answer to all questions about book authors, well if I don't know the answer it is, although I do know the answer to everything, it's just that I don't wanna show off, so I sometimes pretend I'm stupid. I wish I hadn't done my stupid pretending thing during my school exams though!!

Since you know the answer to everything thewhitesettler, do tell, What is the sound of one hand clapping?
-
- 2007-10-14 @ 10:31:46
Can you hear me EP? i am now doing a one handed clap. So there you go then, you now know what a one-handed clap sounds like. Oh I do know everything, but can't remember it all, my brain deletes data that it thinks is useless, ok? Cheery...
-
- 2007-10-15 @ 00:58:16
I can do that. Sounds a bit like a wet footstep in flip-flops.
-
- 2007-10-14 @ 10:39:55
Why would you in your infinite wisdom assume I have heard the sound of one hand clapping? When I don't have the physical capacity to hear the sound of one hand clapping because the question is completely illogical and does not compute. I believe you have intellectualize the useless question, but that's ok. At least you are well aware of your human limitation now. Cherrio and all that good stuff

Aha, do you only use your ears to hear? You are a very talented young-ish lady, therefore you should use your hearing mind, and try to hear, and visualise a one handed clap. That's a good title for a book, A One Handed Clap? Or maybe A One Handed Standing Ovation? You can have them, EP, I'm a giving sort of chap. Cheery.... ( notice the two e's rather than the two r's?)

Silence is the absolute poise or balance of the body, mind and spirit. The man who preserves his selfhood is ever calm and unshaken by the storms of existence.....if you ask him:"What is silence?" he will answer "It is the Great Mystery. The holy silence is His voice. "If you ask "What are the fruits of silence?" he will say: "They are self-control, true courage or endurance, patience, dignity and reverence. Silence is the cornerstone of character".

There's no answer to that, or if there is, I don't know what it is. Obviously since I know everything I do, but it's not there today. I bow down to your greater knowledge oh spiritbird. Cheery.....

What a glorious thing to have happened on my blog--two young people having communion. It has done my old heart good. If only my dear friend Spiritbird had been here to witness this he might have honored us with a Comanche saying about such intertwining of two spirits. I find good communication is as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after, a nap might not be needed this afternoon.

Oh my, what reason had the gods to bless me while I stepped out, and have Spiritbird show up and do excatly as I had hoped for.

thewhitesettler,
My mind can only compute the logical, which is probably the reason I'm tuning you out.
Cherrio- consider it the Bronx Cheer(notice the 2 e's) with a smile.
Ahhh sarcasm, we can all play that game, until it gets really boring. YAWN. ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Spiritbird I wrote a poem caled Silence. It's in my blog. Somewhere.
Bob,
I wouldn't exactly call this communication although it's a somewhat funny deterrent to absolute boredom. I'm new to this whole blog thing as I was invited here by poetrylifeandtimes after they published a few ofmy poems as their featured writer. I will say it's bizarre though, and interesting in a weird sort of way.

I was NOT being sarcastic, I was being a giver, but you read it as different, with your logical mind. A closed logical mind cannot see what I see, cannot do what I do, cannot hear what I hear, cannot smile like I smile..

I'll not question why you're here Empress, nor those who have graced the two of us with their presences. As I see it, a real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.

Paul, you are most welcome to state your beliefs and opinions on my page. As you can see, I'm not a Christian, but that doesn't mean I'll not listen to a Christian's point of view. No, I do not lump Spirituality in with Christianity. I consider myself, as hard as it is for some Christians to believe, very spiritual. Again, welcome. I do want to warn you about our Comanche, Spiritbird, he can be very earthy for a bird.

So, you're relaxing for a moment and ignoring evil. Why did you invite me as a friend then? *evil grin*

And, that's a great quote. I love Rudyard Kipling, he's even in one of my stories called White Horses. See my blog
Nice to meet you. Thanks for the invite.
