The George Exxon Bush Economy & Morals

by vanquishbb @ 2008-07-22 - 11:11:15

McLEAN, Va. - Dogs aren't the only ones casting a longing eye at fire hydrants these days. Fire departments across the country report that thieves are twisting the brass nuts off the tops and selling them for scrap, raising concerns that the hydrants won't work when needed most.

Firefighters responding to an April house fire in Hesperia, Calif., found that the five closest hydrants were useless because thieves had taken the nuts needed to get to the water. They called in special equipment, but by the time they got the fire under control, the house was a total loss.

With the President and Vice-President of the United States committing 30 known felonies, and staffers like Karl Rove telling Congress where they can stick their Congressional subpoenas without any fear of going to jail for contempt of Congress, it's only natural that Americans seeing this will have the same opinions of our laws and courts.

Just this week I was summoned to jury duty and informed the jury commission in writing that considering the status quo, my conscience would not allow me to find anyone in this country guilty of any crime. And if I'm forced to do jury duty, I will be forced to find the defendant not guilty. They wrote back that this would not get me excused. So, if the person being tried turns out to be a petty thief or serial killer, he or she already has one "not guilty" vote. If a terrorist and mass murderer can fly around in Air Force One, then it's okay with me if mass murderers and/or terrorists fly around on American or whatever airline they choose. I'm reasonably sure if the Empire State Building or the Sears Tower is brought down like the World Trade Center was on George Exxon Bush's watch, then John Bush McCain will get to give Americans what they so righteously deserve, four more years of loss and disgrace.

I see your point, but excusing one criminal because there are other criminals seems illogical and morally wrong to me. You don't let off a rapist because there is a murderer next door, you try both of them.

Tom.

Good idea, but the system doesn't work that way. I wouldn't find Osama bin Laden guilty of a case of the hiccups so long as Bush, Cheney and Blair are walking around free. What's fair for one is fair for all. You must admit that I was honest with the jury commission. I told them up front that ALL verdicts coming from me would be, "Not guilty".

Certainly no-one could fault your honesty. But it goes against my moral view of the world to let one person off because another person is guilty. I think each crime must be viewed independently. If you have a different moral outlook, that's up to you. I

Tom.

Justice can be fun and bring a sense of pride. When I was in Vietnam some guy shot his platoon leader in the back and killed him while they were out in the field. I was sent out to bring the guy in. The two guys they sent with me to guard the prisoner just happened to really like this platoon leader. They told me that he had been one of the best and fairest NCOs in the unit. The murderer was a druggie according to them and had been causing trouble since his arrival. One of the guards said, "I'd throw the SOB out of the aircraft if you let me." The other guard agreed that would be fine with him. I told them that my crew and I were for justice and we were too busy to keep up with what our passengers were doing at all times. When we got to the jungle outpost two guys threw this jerk onboard. A few minutes after takeoff I was informed that the guy had jumped out rather than stand trail for murder. I flew around where they said he had jumped, but we never saw him again. Had to do some extra paperwork, but all and all it was a very good day.

That's a fun story and it actually backs up my point that each crime must be seen individually. I don't like people taking the law into their own hands though.

Tom.

I understand that about you, Tom. You're a fair-minded person. The world needs more people like you. I most certainly do not represent the majority, and that's good. I worked too many years with sociopaths to care about the human race. The human animal is the only one that needlessly lies and kills. I cannot find one ounce of proof that humans have improved this planet or the life of any other species. If it were within my power, today would be the last day of humankind on this planet.

And I understand your view too. Three members of my family were in the army. One made it to retirement and had a heart attack 6 months later aged 55, one was killed by the IRA in Northern Ireland, and one tried to kill himself when he got back from Iraq because of the horrors he saw and did. I learned a lot from all three of them and I really do understand how you feel about this. One thing I learned is that there are far more "sociopaths" amongst military personnel than in the population at large. There are even more amongst politicians, of course. But I hope you can believe me when I say that there are still very many good people in this world.

Tom.

Aloha Bob!
I agree with Tom.
One bad guy dead it's a good job.
One bad guy free it's a no good situation.
But...
How could I send someone to jail, gas chamber or whatever, if I can't fix the real problem??
I agree with you on not be set in this kind of situation to judgement.
Weel, you tried.
Aloha!
